Community Outreach Committee Update
by Janet Simmons, ARM, CPM Candidate - October 20, 2009
A school supply drive was held simultaneously with the Maryland Chapter 16’s 18th Annual Golf Tournament, on August 24th, which was a HUGE success! Sinclair Elementary, 3880 Sinclair Lane, Baltimore, Maryland 21213, was very appreciative and thankful for the generous donations of school supplies!!!
We are forging a new partnership with this Title I public school in Baltimore City, where 87 to 92% of the children receive free or reduced lunch. Committee Member Donna Kolb of Kolb Electric and I met with Principal Ms. Roxanne Thorn-Lumpkin of Sinclair Elementary on Thursday, October 1st, to assess the school’s needs and to determine what kind of support Chapter 16 could give.
The Principal is in need of the following:
- Grant writers
- Volunteers to be in the school and to help out at school events
- People to conduct workshops to the parents on how to prepare your credit, 1st time home buying, and BG&E Energy assistance.
Is there anyone in our membership that has any ideas on the above, or volunteers who are willing to give of their time?
Volunteers will be needed to help give out candy at the School’s Halloween party, Thursday, October 29, from 4-7 pm at the school. The party is given at the school to allow for a safe environment for the children, Grades PK-5. We will be donating Halloween candy for the "trick or treat" event and donating canned goods to the Maryland Food Bank.
We are on a great path in truly making a difference in people’s lives. Let’s continue this important endeavor and keep giving back to the community. Please contact Janet Simmons, ARM, Community Outreach Chairperson by email, janetsimmons@forestcity.net, if you have any ideas or are willing to volunteer some of your time to the Halloween Party or future school events, which will benefit our new partner, Sinclair Elementary.
