The Chapter’s 18th Annual Golf Tournament was held on August 24th at the Chestnut Ridge Country Club and was a huge success. This year marked the second year in a row that we sold out the tournament with golfers who enjoyed great golf, delicious food, beverages, prizes and camaraderie. Even in these tough economic times our supporters came through to make this tournament one of the best we've ever had.
Golf Committee Chair, Dave Thomas, along with committee members Gene Novak, Tim Thornton, Carol Jackson, Donna Kolb (Kolb Electric), and Steve Weissenberger (EMCOR Services) are very proud to announce that this year’s tournament was another profitable event and are extremely pleased with the money we were able to raise for the American Lung Association. The Chapter is very grateful to the Golf Committee for all their time, energy and extra efforts in soliciting sponsors, players, prizes, etc., that made this year’s event so successful.
We again partnered with the American Lung Association in Maryland who coordinated a very successful silent auction. Thanks to our sponsors and donors, and the players who participated in the Silent Auction and bought basket tickets and mulligans, American Lung Association received almost $12,000 from this event! This tournament highlights our 9 year relationship with American Lung Association in their quest to help children with asthma breathe easier. The Chapter's Community Outreach Committee also benefited from this tournament by receiving a donation of $2,000 to help the committee in its efforts to support charitable organizations in the Baltimore area. The Community Outreach Committee sponsored a school supply drive at the tournament which was very successful. Janet Simmons, committee chair, collected pens, pencils, notebooks, bookbags, etc., that were donated by our golfers. Please see the Community Outreach Committee Update article for more information.
The funds raised by this tournament are the direct results of sponsorship fees paid by numerous suppliers and service contractors and chapter members that have been supporting our chapter and our industry at large for many years. The chapter would like to thank all of the following sponsors and our volunteers for their support:
Platinum Sponsors: Associates Plumbing of Baltimore, Inc., Brickman Group, Exterior Concepts, Inc., McFall & Berry Landscape Management, Inc., and Priority Engineering Services, LLC.
Our Friends of IREM Gold Sponsors: Acadia Windows & Doors, Associates Plumbing of Baltimore, Inc., Custom Care Carpets, D.W. Bahr Plumbing and Heating Inc., Palmer Brothers Painting and General Contracting, Inc.
And 90 various sponsors and contributors. Please see the tournament day program for a complete list of the sponsors and contributors.
We want to especially recognize our tournament day volunteers without whose help we would not have had such a successful tournament: Susie Summers and Kara Permisohn of Minkoff Company, Sonya Zoppo of Metropolitan Maintenance, Phil Bumgarner of Allen & Rocks, Pat (Dave's wife) Thomas, and Chapter members Amy Borgerding and Leanne Laub.
Thanks to Keisha Richardson of the American Lung Association for partnering with us again this year by coordinating a very successful silent auction, and to American Lung Association volunteers Nissa Edman and Valerie Nozea.
Thank you to For Rent Magazine for providing our foursomes with a team photo for each member of the team.
And last but not least we again thank Larry Headd, Chestnut Ridge Golf Professional, and his staff for their excellent service to our golfers and for their support of our tournament.
