In 1992, Chapter 16 initiated its first annual charity golf tournament that has since become the hallmark of the Chapter’s success at giving back to the community. This year marks our 18th annual golf tournament and we are all looking forward to another enjoyable and successful event. Since that first year, we have been able to make a difference in the lives of thousands of children and adults through a variety of charitable organizations, including the Make-A-Wish Foundation, the Asthma and Allergy Foundation, and for the past several years, the American Lung Association (ALA) of Maryland.
Last year's tournament resulted in a donation of over $15,000 to benefit ALA of Maryland, and we hope to meet or exceed this figure this year in donations to ALA of Maryland and other local charities that our new Community Outreach Committee will identify. We're also hoping that some proceeds can go to our new Past Presidents' Grant Fund to fund scholarships and grants for Chapter 16 members.
While our committee has made some great progress to date, we have many more sponsorship opportunities to fill and are counting on the support of our chapter members to help make this year’s event the most memorable and successful event ever. We need you to recruit your vendor partners to play as well as sign up for one of the various sponsorships that are available and listed on our golf outing webpage. We also need door prizes which are a great alternative for those who feel a sponsorship is not within their budget. Gift certificates for $25 to restaurants or shops make great door prizes.
Last year’s tournament was a sell-out and we expect the same this year. Since we are limited to 136 golfers, and we don’t want you to miss out on all of the fun, please get your foursome(s) signed up early. The fee for players will remain the same as last year at $200. The tournament format is “follow the leader/scramble" so players of every skill level can enjoy the day. Players in this year’s tournament will be challenged by our closest to the pin and longest drive contests for both men and women. We will also have our hole-in-one contest with a prize of $25,000 and a putting contest. So sharpen those driving and putting skills and win some great prizes.
Registration begins at 10:30 am. A sensational grilled lunch prepared by the catering staff at Chestnut Ridge is served at 11:00 am. Our shotgun start for the tournament is 12:00 pm. Prior to the start of the tournament everyone will have the opportunity to buy mulligans and purchase tickets for our ever so popular Golf, Restaurant, Martini and Wine Baskets. These baskets are valued between $300 and $1200. Following the tournament, everyone will enjoy a 19th hole happy hour, which will include a silent auction with lots of great items available for bidding. Participation in the gift baskets and the silent auction is another way that you can increase our donation to our recipient charities.
Following happy hour is a delicious full course buffet dinner to include carved beef, salmon, chicken marsala, salads and deserts in the wonderful surroundings of Chestnut Ridge Country Club’s dining room. The awards ceremony will follow and the Golf Committee will present the prizes to the tournament winners and the contest winners. And, of course, the most important part of the event -- the presentation of the donations to the charities. If you're not a golfer, please join us for the happy hour and dinner and you can join in the fun of the silent auction and gift baskets. Tickets are $55 per person - just click here to get yours!
