The Program Committee has been very active in preparing events for this year. Our goal is to provide topics of interest for our members at various locations throughout the Baltimore Metropolitan Area.
Our programs began in February with an overview and tour of the 1.1 million square foot Montgomery Park development project in southwest Baltimore. The building owner and host, Sam Himmelrich, provided a detailed presentation on sustainability and how it was incorporated into his $100 million development project. Later, Sam and his team were gracious enough to tour us around the facility. Some of our members had actually worked there when it was the Montgomery Ward Catalog Distribution Center! Our March program was held at That’s Amore in Columbia and included a presentation by Sean Alliger and Pam Hobbs from Howard County Fire & Rescue Department on emergency preparedness. Sean and Pam brought along the Emergency Response Vehicle. After a two-part talk covering Emergency Response on a County Level and Emergency Preparedness for Property Managers, they took us on a tour of this high-tech truck complete with multiple televisions, state-of-the-art GPS Tracking equipment and much more. Thank you to our Friends of IREM meeting sponsors, Scott Karam and Francisco Erazo from Palmer Brothers Painting. See the meeting page for handouts from this meeting. March meeting photos.
The Rusty Scupper provided the setting for our April dinner meeting with IREM National President Pamela W. Monroe. Ms. Monroe was very excited about visiting our chapter and the location provided the perfect setting to highlight Baltimore’s Inner Harbor. Pam delivered a very interesting overview of the current market conditions. It was both informative and exciting to have such complicated information presented in this format. Both Commercial and Residential Professionals can agree that the timing of this information was extremely beneficial. Having a national officer speak at any of our functions is an honor that shouldn't be missed! Thank you to our Bar Sponsor for the evening, Friends of IREM Dan and Carol Bahr of D.W. Bahr Plumbing & Heating. April meeting photos.
Joe Gold and Gregg Owens from Washington Savings Bank provided a lunch presentation at our May meeting. In our on-going efforts at varying our venues, that month's meeting was held at Nick’s Fish Houe in south Baltimore. Our speakers provided a bank’s view on the economy and trends that affect all aspects of the real estate market. Afterwards they opened up the floor for a very exciting Q&A session. Thank you to our Friends of IREM meeting sponsor, Acadia Windows & Doors, represented by Kelly Murray. May meeting photos.
The Program Committee thanks all who attended these events and we appreciate everyone's suggestions for future events and topics, so please contact us at the email below. We are in the process of planning a wine tasting, a tour of Acadia Windows & Doors, a tour of Silo Point, and an installation and holiday event. New committee members are always welcome!
