Welcome to the IREM Maryland Chapter No. 16

Region 3 Education News

by Leanne Laub, CPM, Education Committee Co-Chair

We are off to a great start in 2009 for the Region 3 Education Committee. I serve as co-chair along with Brendan McHugh, CPM of Colliers Pinkard.  Together with the education chairs from Chapters 8, 92, 77, 38 and 39, we plan educational offerings within our region.  By pooling our resources, we are able to offer members in Region 3 far more offerings than other regions around the country.  You may not know this, but this region is considered a model of teamwork by IREM Headquarters for the way in which we run our educational offerings.

We recently held the Asset Management Track right here in Baltimore at the Bank of America Building.  Despite the snow storm we had on the first day of class, we hit our budget number of 12 attendees.  Glad that everyone braved the storm for this very worthwhile offering led by none other than our own Len Frenkil, CPM. This track gives the building blocks necessary for the CPM candidate as they prepare for the Capstone series consisting of the MPSA and CPM exam.

We have also had three additional succesful offerings by the Region 3 Education Committee.  RES201, Successful Site Management was offered in late March in Rockville, and some of the graduates of that class have already joined our chapter.  Also in late March thru April 2nd, 21 CPM candidates took the MPSA and 19 of those went on to take the CPM review and exam.  This was a great turnout for this offering.  On April 14-15 Region 3 hosted the Property Operations Track I in Alexandria, VA with 20+ students in attendance.   Property Operations Track II will be offered May 11-14 in Washington, DC and the Ethics for Real Estate Managers course will be offered on the 15th of May, also in DC.  Please check out the "Local Courses" page for a complete listing of the Region 3 offerings for 2009, including those later in the year not mentioned above.

Region 3 once again is committed to providing our members with opportunities outside the normal classroom setting.  Last year we sponsored four very succesful seminars on topics such as LEED certification and green cleaning.  This year we are looking to our members for suggestions of topics that are of interest to all of you.  If you have ideas that you would like to share please send them to iae@irem16.org.

I would also like to take this opportunity to remind everyone about the Maryland Chapter 16 Past Presidents' Grant offered to each of our members.  This grant is provided in these economic times (and beyond) to help you with the costs associated with obtaining your designation.  This is just another way we are here to provide our members with meaningful and worthwhile experiences.
