Chapter 16's newly created Community Outreach Commitee's first service endeavor for 2009 was a HUGE success, thanks to the efforst of our Members and Friends of IREM!!

On March 11, 2009 at IREM Chapter 16's meeting, we conducted a food drive for the Maryland Food Bank.  Our goal was to collect 105 pounds of food, enough to feed a family of four, three meals a day, for one week.  We ended up with 200 pounds of food!!!  It was a phenomenal success.  A big thank you to everyone who brough canned foods and cash.  The Maryland Food Bank was very appreciative and thankful that we made it our goal to help them during this difficult time in our economy; you can read their letter here.

We would like to continue this success with other volunteer activities in the future, such as adopting a school, Habitat for Humanity, Moveable Feast, clothing drives and additional food drives for the Maryland Food Bank. Earlier this year, Chapter 16 donated $1,000 to Habitat for Humanity of Anne Arundel County for a Women Build House, a house that will be built by women for a female recipient.  We'll be asking all our women members and Friends to volunteer when building time arrives.

If there are volunteer activities that you think IREM Chapter 16 can participate in, or if you would like to join the Community Outreach Committee, please contact Chairperson Janet Simmons at armmembership@irem16.org.  Let's give back and make a difference in people's lives; because we are IREM, and IREM cares!!
