Summer in Maryland...We made it through a very tough winter, which some dubbed "Snowmagedden", and we were looking forward to warmer weather as we were fixing up and cleaning up our properties after the highest snowfall on record with two major storms in February. Now we get to brave the 100+ degree days and hope we can keep our tenants cool and comfortable. Luckily, with the Orioles, Ravens and World Class Soccer, there are many activities we are looking forward to.
Maryland Chapter 16 has had a lot of activity the last few months as well. We have had several successful lunch meetings on a variety of topics from Sustainability to Generations in the Workplace. We also enjoyed a tour of the B&O Railroad Museum. We were happy to install new CPM Members Nathan Benefiel of Rudder Management, Shawn Colbert of Springwood Real Estate Services and Doug Mueller of Watermark Property Group at these meetings. Congratulations, Nathan, Shawn and Doug! Please look for the Programs Committee Update for more information on these events and please see our Events Page for all the happenings for the rest of the year.
Several members of Chapter 16 assisted with the Capstone Track offering that was held in Baltimore May 10th-13th. Many thanks to our Region 3 Education Class Offering Liaison, Secretary/Treasurer Leanne Laub, CPM, for all of her hard work in getting volunteers each day to assist our esteemed faculty member, Len Frenkil, CPM, in making sure all of the students were comfortable and organized for the task of completing the MPSA. Chapter 16 had two students enrolled in the class, both of which were recently informed of their successful completion of the Capstone Track. We look forward to welcoming them into the IREM family soon!
Chapter leaders attended the annual IREM Leadership & Legislative Summit in Washington, DC in April, and Richard Henneberry, CPM Candidate, represented Chapter 16 at Capitol Hill Day, the highlight event of the conference. We will also be sending a group to two upcoming conferences, the IREM Leadership Conference and IREM iCon.
Our Professional Outreach Committee recently attended a Diversity Career Fair at the Baltimore Convention Center, offering attendees a wealth of information about IREM and a career in Real Estate Management. Thank you to our Professional Outreach Chair, Immediate Past-President Steve Antonsen, CPM, and Public Relations Chair, Toni Harris, CPM, ARM, for spending the day spreading the word about IREM and everything our industry has to offer. The Professional Outreach Committee is always looking for opportunities to attend career days and job fairs, so if you know of an event, please contact us at info@irem16.org.
Competition is heating up in our IREM Buck$ program, where you can receive points for getting involved in the chapter. You can accumulate points for attending meetings, serving on committees, contributing to the online newsletter, referrals, securing sponsors or donors for the golf outing, wearing your pin to meetings and much more! We are scheduled to have an IREM Bucks auction at the Installation Dinner and Holiday Party, so get involved now so you can bid on great items later this year. See the IREM Bucks article for more information.
Our Golf Committee is well on their way to presenting another successful event at Chestnut Ridge Country Club on August 23rd. Chapter 16 is partnering with the American Cancer Society this year and we anticipate another sell-out, so join us for a day of fun, networking, good food, silent auction and door prizes, all for a good cause. Thanks to our Golf Chair, Dave Thomas, CPM, and his committee for their dedication to Chapter 16's highlight event of the year.
The Chapter 16 Community Outreach Committee held another successful food drive and is gearing up for a school supply drive at the golf outing. Please see the Community Outreach article for information on all the great work they are doing and how you can help. Many thanks to committee chair Janet Simmons, CPM Candidate, ARM and her committee for all their work on their many community service projects.
I hope you will join us at our upcoming meetings and events. Please consider getting involved. It is a great experience and an opportunity for professional and personal growth. Please contact us at info@irem16.org to get involved today!
